Chris Brazzell was carted off the field during the Carolina Panthers' Wednesday practice after holding his knee following a 7-on-7 rep.
The diagnosis was not certain after the injury, but the timing is notable for a rookie who entered camp with a chance to earn early playing time. Carolina selected Brazzell in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and the Panthers' receiver room had already created opportunity for a young player to work his way into the mix.
Brazzell arrived with momentum after a strong college career at Tennessee. In 2025, he caught six passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns against Georgia, then followed that with four catches for 138 yards and a touchdown against Kentucky. He also caught the go-ahead touchdown in Tennessee's rivalry win over Alabama in 2024.
That production helped make Brazzell one of the more intriguing receivers in the class. He entered the league after impressing in mini camp earlier this offseason, and the Panthers were looking for him to build on that early impression as training camp moved forward.
Now the immediate focus shifts to the extent of the injury and how much time, if any, Brazzell could miss. For a rookie trying to establish himself quickly, even a short setback can matter, especially when playing time is available in a limited receiver group.
What Brazzell brought to Carolina
Brazzell's college resume showed both production and big-play ability. In 2022, Jalin Hyatt totaled 1,000 yards for Tennessee, and Brazzell followed later in the Josh Heupel era as another receiver who flashed in key moments. His size and production gave Carolina a reason to invest a third-round pick in him, with the hope that he could grow into a role quickly.
For now, though, the bigger story is health. The Panthers will wait for clarity, while a rookie who had earned attention early in the offseason now faces an uncertain stretch at the start of camp.
