Dorset Police said it made a series of arrests and interventions across Dorset during its "safe summer" patrols. The force said the work was meant to "keep communities safe."
Those patrols brought officers into Dorchester, Bournemouth, Poole and West Dorset, where they dealt with suspected drug supply, suspected shoplifting, indecent exposure and a pony welfare case. The incidents were separate, but they unfolded in the same period of summer patrols.
Dorchester and Bournemouth
In Dorchester, officers witnessed a suspected drug transaction and arrested a man on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs. Police seized a number of individual deals of white powder at the scene, and the man remains in custody while enquiries are ongoing.
In Bournemouth, officers responded to a report of a suspected shoplifter and found the suspect in possession of suspected stolen goods. Police recovered the goods and returned them to their rightful owner, while the suspect is assisting officers with their enquiries.
Poole and West Dorset
In Poole, officers arrested a man on suspicion of indecent exposure after responding to a report and locating a suspect who matched the description provided. Investigations into that incident are continuing.
In West Dorset, concerns for a young pony prompted a response from the rural crime team, Dorchester officers, the RSPCA and an equine vet. The pony was found in poor condition, examined, seized and transported to receive further care.
Dorset Police patrols
The cluster of incidents shows police activity spread across several parts of the county at once, rather than one connected case. Enquiries are ongoing in Dorchester, Bournemouth, Poole and West Dorset, and the pony is now being looked after at an equine facility.
