Lil Durk was moved into solitary confinement at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles days before his Lil Durk bond hearing. The transfer happened on Friday, October 30, as he prepared to ask a judge for release while he waits for his next trial.
According to TMZ, Durk was taken to the facility’s Special Housing Unit. Jose Rojas confirmed the move to TMZ, and the Bureau of Prisons declined to discuss the conditions of confinement for any individual in its custody.
Special Housing Unit move
Sources allege that Durk’s cell had been searched repeatedly after his September acquittal in the September murder-for-hire trial. He reportedly questioned the deputy warden about those searches, then was accused of talking back and moved into solitary confinement.
That sequence leaves him in a harsher housing setting just before a hearing that could affect whether he stays in custody while his case moves toward the August 2027 trial. He remains in federal custody on separate racketeering-related and firearms charges.
Jay-Z and J. Cole letters
Jay-Z and J. Cole submitted letters urging a judge to grant Durk pretrial release. Their support landed against the backdrop of a custody decision that now turns on Wednesday’s bond hearing, where the court is scheduled to consider whether release is appropriate before the next trial date.
The immediate issue is straightforward: Durk is asking for bond while housed in solitary confinement, and the court will have to decide whether that setting changes the terms of his confinement or leaves him exactly where he is. For him, Wednesday is the day that decides whether the move to the Special Housing Unit becomes a short stop or the new normal while his case continues.
