For a rookie receiver trying to separate himself in the first days of training camp, timing matters almost as much as talent. Cyrus Allen has given the Kansas City Chiefs a little of both, and he has done it before the first week of camp even has a chance to settle into its normal rhythm.
On Wednesday, the Chiefs held their first training camp practice and Allen caught three passes from Patrick Mahomes in 7-on-7s, including a touchdown. Then on Thursday, he followed it up with an impressive catch over the middle from Justin Fields. That is not a season-defining stretch, of course, but it is exactly the kind of early production that can matter when a roster and role are still being sorted out.
An early camp edge
The biggest point here is not simply that Allen made plays. It is that he has already made them in two different settings, against two different quarterbacks, and with enough consistency to suggest the work is carrying over. The Chiefs are still early in the evaluation phase, and no one is handing out jobs in July 24th camp work. But Allen has clearly put himself on the board in the first two days, and that is important in a competition where every positive rep can shape the conversation.

They do, however, suggest that Cyrus Allen is turning spring work and early camp preparation into something tangible.
