Dermot Mulroney’s Chicago Fire Dermot Mulroney departure will land early in Season 15, ending his run as Chief Dom Pascal after he returned in the Season 14 finale. The move sends one of Firehouse 51’s newer leadership pieces out just as the show turns to the fallout from that finale.
Mulroney joined Chicago Fire in its 13th season as a series regular, stepping into the series after Eamonn Walker’s exit from the role of Wallace Boden. He went on hiatus for the latter half of Season 14, then came back for the finale, where Severide discussed his professional options with Pascal.
Season 15 on October 7
Season 15 premieres on October 7 at 9 p.m. ET and is set to address the fallout from the Season 14 finale. That gives the show a narrow runway: the early episodes now have to absorb Pascal’s exit while also carrying forward the story threads left by the finale.
Joe Miñoso will also conclude his storyline early in Season 15, so Mulroney’s departure is not the only cast turn the show has to manage at the start of the new cycle. Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo have new deals to continue, while Hanako Greensmith, Jocelyn Hudon, and Brandon Larracuente are among the names expected back.
Firehouse 51 after Pascal
Andrea Newman is leaving after overseeing the show for its entire 14-season run to date and the last three seasons as showrunner, and Victor Teran is taking over as executive producer and showrunner for Season 15. That combination leaves Chicago Fire with a cast reset and a leadership reset at the same time.
Da’Vinchi will join this fall as Marcus Burke, a firefighter candidate at Firehouse 51 described as roguish, funny, wry, and a little defiant. The early exit for Mulroney, though, is the cleaner signal for viewers: Chicago Fire is choosing to clear Pascal out quickly rather than drag out his arc across the season.
