Lech Poznań finally has its first Ekstraklasa win of the season. Niels Frederiksen’s team beat Wieczysta 2:1, with the result offering a timely response after the setback against Aarhus in Champions League qualifying.
Frederiksen made six changes compared with the Aarhus match, and Lech started quickly. Christensen hit the crossbar in the 12th minute, and about 10 minutes later Sayyadmanesh came close with a bicycle kick. The breakthrough arrived in the 34th minute when Agnero scored from outside the penalty area.
Lech added a second before halftime after a mistake by Djermanović. Sayyadmanesh finished from long distance to make it 2:0, and that lead gave the home side control going into the break.
Wieczysta push back, but Lech hold on
Wieczysta had entered the match on the back of a second straight league defeat and sitting last in the table, but it still found a way back into the game. In the 61st minute, Agnero struck the post, and five minutes later Lucas Piazon scored for Wieczysta to cut the lead to 2:1.
The closing stages brought more pressure. In the 81st minute, Mikułko saved Hakansa’s shot onto the post, Robert Gumny later hit the post, and Agnero missed a one-on-one chance against Antoni Mikułko before the final whistle. Even so, Lech saw out the result and took a much-needed league victory.
The bigger picture is straightforward. Lech had been expected to compete in the Champions League this season, but the early exit changed the tone of the campaign. This win does not erase that disappointment, but it does give Frederiksen’s squad an important league response and some momentum before the next European match.
