The Dodgers' top prospects conversation picked up another layer of intrigue on Saturday night when Zyhir Hope and Kendall George were scratched from the Tulsa Drillers' Double-A lineup, two days before the MLB trade deadline.
That does not automatically mean a deal is coming. But when two outfield prospects are removed from a lineup at this stage of the season, with Monday's deadline approaching, it is the kind of move that naturally gets attention.
Why the scratch stood out
The Dodgers have depth in the outfield among their minor league talent, and that is part of what makes this situation notable. MLB Pipeline lists six outfielders among the club's top 10 prospects, so there is no shortage of names in the mix.
Hope is one of the prospects drawing the strongest focus, and Kendall George was also pulled from the Double-A game on Saturday night. At the same time, Josue De Paula remained in the Drillers' lineup against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, and he delivered with a home run in the bottom of the first inning.
Does this mean a trade is close?
Not necessarily. Clubs make late lineup changes for different reasons, and a scratch alone is not proof that a move has been completed or even finalized. But with the deadline arriving on Monday, every change around the Dodgers' minor league outfield group will be viewed through that lens.
What is clear is that the organization has a deep pool of young outfield talent, and that depth is part of the broader deadline conversation. For now, the focus remains on Hope and George, and on whether Saturday night's decision is simply a short-term adjustment or a sign of something bigger to come.
