The bout was for the vacant BUI Celtic super-lightweight title and sat on the undercard of Pierce O'Leary against Mark Chamberlain, but the sporting outcome quickly gave way to medical concern. Reeves was stretchered out of the ring and transferred to hospital after the stoppage, turning a title fight into a situation that demanded immediate attention far beyond the final bell.
On Sunday, Queensberry Promotions said Reeves was in a critical but stable condition. That update at least offered some reassurance after the immediate aftermath of the knockout, though the headline remained the same: the 31-year-old was still in hospital and the priority was his recovery, not the scorecard or the title picture.
Frank Warren said Queensberry was in constant contact with Reeves' team regarding his condition, and that everyone at the organisation was thinking of him. Gary Cully also offered his prayers and thoughts after the fight, while reflecting on Reeves’ performance and noting that he had come in as a big underdog but showed he could operate at a higher level.
That is the difficult balance in boxing: a fighter can leave the ring with credit, even after defeat, but the immediate aftermath can still redefine the night. Reeves may have been beaten in the 10th round, but the more important story now is the one unfolding in hospital, where the only result that matters is a positive one.
