The filings cover 2019 through the most recent returns for 2024. They show annual income ranging from $1.4 million to $3.5 million, with most of the money coming from wineries, restaurants and other investments.

Jennifer Siebel Newsom leads The Representation Project and Girls Club Entertainment. The released records show her salary from The Representation Project was $145,000 to $150,000 a year from 2021 through 2024. Girls Club paid her $100,000 in 2021 and $11,700 in 2022, and she did not report income from Girls Club Entertainment in the two years that followed.
The Representation Project is a nonprofit that advocates for gender equity through film and education programs. Girls Club Entertainment is a for-profit production company that holds the copyrights to her documentaries, and the filings show that company has been losing money in recent years.
California disclosure rules
During his first year in office, Newsom signed a law requiring presidential and gubernatorial candidates to release five years of tax returns to appear on the primary ballot. The California Supreme Court struck down the portion covering presidential candidates less than six months later, while gubernatorial candidates remained required to disclose their filings during election season.
Newsom last released the information for tax year 2020, which made Thursday's disclosure the first look at later filings. The governor's office said the financial documents contradict claims that the Newsoms enriched themselves through new ventures and nonprofit organizations, while the records also show their income has declined since Newsom became governor.
Newsom said in recent days that federal agents have knocked on the doors of family friends and former employees and have been demanding records in a quest to find any kind of wrongdoing by him or his wife. The filings leave one question open for readers of the records: how much of the couple's reported income came from each specific winery, restaurant or other investment.
