Tamworth Road in Long Eaton will be one-way from 19:00 BST on Sunday until December as roadworks begin on a £10m revamp of the town centre. Drivers using the road will face a southbound closure between Market Place and Broad Street while the work continues.
Long Eaton road changes
The council said the pavement widening is part of the wider £10m project and told businesses they will remain open during the work. It also said drivers should allow more time for journeys because the changes will mean longer travel times.
Motorists can use Wilsthorpe Road or Fields Farm Road instead of the closed stretch. Traffic travelling from the A6005 Nottingham to Derby Road will still be able to reach the Lawrence Street car park via Fletcher Gate, keeping access in place for that part of Long Eaton.
August closures on Tamworth Road
From Sunday 2 August, diversions for traffic wanting to turn south into Tamworth Road take effect at 19:00 BST. Between 2 August and 7 August, night-time closures are likely from 19:00 to 05:00, and The Market Place taxi rank will be closed during that period.
An alternative taxi rank will operate on Main Street outside 3 Counties Snooker hall. Bus users can get information from trentbarton about how the closures will affect routes, while the one-way restriction on Tamworth Road remains in place until December.
Market Place and Broad Street
The clearest answer for drivers is to avoid Tamworth Road if the journey depends on reaching the southbound side through Market Place and Broad Street. The closure turns a short town-centre trip into a route that now has to be planned around the diversion, the night restrictions and the taxi rank change, all while work continues through December.
