Wpxi reported that La'Eva Morrison died after police said she was shot in the face in Pittsburgh's Strip District. Officers from Zone 2 responded just before 11 p.m. on Sunday to 27th Street and Liberty Avenue, where they found Morrison unresponsive on the sidewalk.
Pittsburgh Public Safety
Public Safety said officers performed CPR until medics arrived, then medics took Morrison to the hospital in critical condition. She died there later Sunday night.
La'Eva Morrison, 34
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office and a spokesperson for Pittsburgh Public Safety identified her as La'Eva Morrison, 34, of Braddock. The identification gave a name and age to a shooting that began as a reported emergency at a busy Strip District intersection and ended at the hospital.
Three people detained
Three people were detained from the scene and taken to police headquarters for questioning. Public Safety said the investigation is ongoing, and it has not said whether any of the detained people are expected to face charges related to the shooting.
For people in the area, the immediate practical step is simple: the case is still active, and the next developments will come through investigators, not the scene itself. Morrison's death, the detention of three people, and the open question of charges leave the case moving forward on a criminal track that has not yet been resolved.
