Trump is expected to sign the order Monday afternoon alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Jennifer Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine and several military spouses. He will also appoint an executive director for the President's Military Spouse Commission.
Jennifer Hegseth leads the commission
Jennifer Hegseth will chair the Military Spouse Commission. Christie Mullin and 20 other military spouses will serve as members, with the group representing the service secretaries, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and each branch's senior enlisted leader.
The structure gives the White House a direct line to military spouse complaints and policy ideas, rather than routing them through separate offices. The commission is expected to advise the president and provide annual recommendations on quality of life while trying to strengthen military readiness.
Blue Star Families survey pressure
Blue Star Families' latest Military Family Lifestyle Survey lists military spouse employment and pay as the top concerns for active-duty military families. The same survey also ranks time away from family, child care, housing and housing allowances, and children's education among the leading concerns.
Military One Source estimates that 1 million children have at least one parent serving on active duty. That puts the commission's agenda squarely on day-to-day family issues that can affect whether service members can stay in place, move, or accept another deployment.
Trump's earlier military family steps
During Trump's first term, he expanded support for military families by improving occupational license portability for military spouses and broadening access to remote and flexible work. The new commission extends that approach through a formal White House advisory process with annual recommendations.
The order does not spell out specific proposals yet. For military spouses, the immediate change is access to a new commission that can turn recurring problems into White House recommendations on childcare, employment, housing, health care and education.
