Maryland Powerball ticket winners were in the same pool as players across the United States on Monday, Aug. 3, when the Powerball jackpot climbed to an estimated $748 million. The cash value stood at $325.1 million ahead of Monday night’s Powerball drawing.
No ticket matched all six numbers during the three months before Monday’s drawing, and the jackpot had been growing since May. The next Powerball drawing was scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, at around 10:59 p.m. ET.
May 2 rollover run
The run began after winning tickets sold in Texas and Florida split a $20 million jackpot on May 2. Since then, no one matched all six numbers, which pushed the top prize higher through successive drawings on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
That left players in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands eligible to take part, along with players in the United Kingdom. In the United States, tickets cost $2 per play, and players can add Power Play for $1.
United Kingdom entry
British players are competing for the same jackpot as U.S. participants, but the U.K. National Lottery uses a separate prize structure for lower-tier wins. Tickets in the UK cost £4, and U.K. winners receive annual payments over 30 years through the U.K. National Lottery.
The shared jackpot makes the top prize one pool, while the payout rules below it differ by market. That is the practical split for anyone buying a ticket: the jackpot follows the same result, but smaller prizes do not. For Maryland players waiting on the result, the only number that matters next is whether Wednesday, August 5 at around 10:59 p.m. ET delivers a match.
