Patsy Kensit teases shocking King family secret on Emmerdale return

Patsy Kensit says Sadie King is back with a secret, and it is going to be absolutely shocking. After two decades away from Emmerdale, she has returned to the ITV soap with a storyline built around one of the biggest secrets in the King family.

“I was very happily surprised to get the call 20 years down the road, and I came up to meet with our fantastic producer Laura [Shaw],” Kensit said. “We talked about storylines and what they were going to do, and it sounded great. I've been up here six weeks now and it's just flying by.”

Six weeks back with Robert

Kensit also said she has already been working with Ryan Hawley, who plays Robert, and had a day with Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain Dingle, “sort of tying up the past.” That gives the return a clear shape: this is not a cameo built on nostalgia, but a longer run that is already connecting Sadie to current and past relationships inside Emmerdale.

She added, “There's a whole new roster of people. I've been doing stuff with Ryan [Hawley], who plays Robert, and I had a day of me and Jeff [Hordley, Cain Dingle], sort of tying up the past.” For viewers, that means the comeback is being staged through character links rather than a simple re-entry scene, which usually gives a soap more room to pull the reveal tighter before the secret lands.

Laura Shaw on the King family

Laura Shaw said Sadie comes back “in a dramatic way” and that her arrival will be “every bit as amazing and brilliant as the first time around.” She also said the reason bringing her back is “one of the biggest secrets we've ever had within the King family,” adding that the secret is “going to be pretty explosive.”

That is the part that makes the return worth watching now. Kensit says Sadie “has an agenda,” while Shaw warned that “not everyone is going to welcome Sadie back with open arms.” In soap terms, that usually means the reveal is being set up to split loyalties rather than simply restore old relationships.

Until December at Emmerdale

Kensit has said she will be at Emmerdale until December, so the storyline has real room to breathe before the family secret is fully exposed. Shaw also said some residents do not know Sadie is involved, which could open up “one or two new surprising friendships” for her.

That is the practical reading of this comeback: the show is using Sadie’s return to feed a long-running King family storyline, not just to revisit the past. If the secret is as explosive as both Kensit and Shaw suggest, the payoff is likely to land through who trusts Sadie first, and who is left dealing with the fallout later.
