John Rocks was arrested in Madrid on Saturday after appearing on the UK most wanted list in connection with multiple sexual assaults. Spain's National Police said the 37-year-old had been moving between locations to avoid arrest before officers located him in the Spanish capital.
Investigators had spent two years building the case after being alerted that Rocks may have been in Spain. The alleged offences are said to have happened between 2012 and 2022, giving police a long time window to test leads, check identities and narrow the search to Madrid.
Madrid surveillance operation
Authorities said the arrest took place during a surveillance operation on a central street in Madrid. Police said Rocks was wearing a cap and sunglasses when officers found him, and that he gave different personal details and did not co-operate as they tried to establish who he was.
Police initially identified him by his tattoos, then fingerprint checks tied him to the man wanted by Police Scotland. That sequence mattered because the arrest did not turn on a quick roadside stop; it depended on matching what officers saw on the street with records strong enough to stand up when the identity check became contested.
