Dak Prescott addressed his personal life publicly for the first time on Thursday, opening up about the end of his engagement to Sarah Jane Ramos. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback said the situation had become a public conversation, but he made clear that the breakup came with a lot of false narratives on both sides.
Prescott said, “Yeah, I mean, I don't necessarily think it was public to me,” before adding that what people read and look up can create problems of its own. He said there were “a lot of false narratives out there on both of our sides,” and called that “very unfortunate” for both him and Ramos.
A private matter that became public
Prescott is a private person by nature, but he is also one of the most visible players in the NFL because he is the Dallas Cowboys quarterback. That made the breakup especially hard to keep out of the spotlight once it became gossip column fodder before he commented on it publicly.
The timeline of the relationship had already been widely discussed. Prescott and Ramos became engaged in October 2024, with a wedding planned for April 2026 in Lake Como, Italy. The engagement was called off in March 2026.
The couple also shares two daughters, and Prescott said that was the part that mattered most in the moment. “But it's kind of the life we live in. Yeah, it was an unfortunate situation for obviously everybody. More importantly, the kids,” he said. “And so for me, it's just about making sure I'm there in every which way for them.”
What Prescott emphasized
Prescott did not try to relitigate the breakup or turn the moment into a broader public statement. Instead, he focused on the impact of outside attention and on being present for his children. That approach fits the way he has often handled sensitive topics: direct, controlled and centered on family.
For now, the biggest takeaway is simple. Prescott has finally addressed the split himself, and he made clear that the public reaction was more complicated than the private reality. With two daughters in the picture, his focus appears to be on stability and responsibility rather than the noise around the breakup.
