Christopher Colquhoun is joining EastEnders as Darnell Larson Jr, Denise Fox’s half-brother, with a debut expected later this summer. The casting adds a new branch to the Fox-Trueman family just as Denise is dealing with acute myeloid leukaemia, so this is not a routine arrival in Walford.

Colquhoun said, “I am thrilled to be finally moving to Walford after all these years, and the welcome I’ve received has been phenomenal.” He added, “Hearing I’d got the role was an absolute doof doof moment for me.” The line lands because the show is not just adding another face; it is building a family reveal around a character who has already been carrying a serious health storyline.
Grace will arrive with Darnell Larson Jr, and Grace is played by Krysstina Frempong. That gives the new arrival an immediate family link on screen, rather than dropping him in as a lone outsider. For viewers, that usually means the reveal can move quickly from identification to conflict.
Kim Fox finds the link
Kim Fox uncovers the existence of the half-brother Denise never knew she had, which gives the story its trigger. The discovery arrives after Denise has undergone blood and platelet transfusions and spent a month in hospital for chemotherapy, so the family scene is already under strain before Darnell steps in.
Libby Fox has returned to Walford to support Denise, which means the family is already operating in crisis mode. That makes the timing of Kim’s discovery more pointed: the new relative is not appearing in a calm domestic reset, but inside an ongoing medical and emotional upheaval.
Five Mitchell arrivals
EastEnders is also preparing five new Mitchell arrivals: Gemma Hawkins, Ned Roper, Ryder, Rose and Jodie. Gemma Hawkins is played by Patricia Potter and is Nicola Mitchell’s sister, while Ned Roper is played by Jamie Bamber, Ryder by Felix Uff, Rose by Marian McLoughlin and Jodie by Anna Constable.
Christopher Colquhoun’s role has the sharper immediate edge, though, because Darnell’s arrival is described as complicated even before he learns about Denise Fox’s cancer diagnosis.
