Barclays announced Barclays investment bank leadership changes on Tuesday, naming Mike Joo and Adeel Khan as Co-CEOs of its Investment Bank from February 2027, subject to regulatory approval. The planned handoff gives the division a new top structure well before it takes effect.

C.S. Venkatakrishnan on 2023

C.S. Venkatakrishnan said the Investment Bank has delivered a strong performance since 2023, growing revenues and returns and driving a more integrated service for clients. He added that, as Barclays enters the next stage of its strategy, Adeel and Mike will form a strong partnership to deliver an even stronger, more integrated service to clients.

Mike Joo will join in early 2027 from Bank of America, where he most recently served as Co-Head of Global Investment Banking. He joined Bank of America in 2006 and has held senior leadership roles across Global Corporate and Investment Banking and Global Markets. The appointment brings in an external executive while keeping the transition tied to a future date rather than an immediate change.

Adeel Khan and Mike Joo

Adeel Khan leads Global Markets and has served as Co-Head of the Investment Bank since 2021. In February 2027, he and Joo will become Co-CEOs of the Investment Bank and sit on the Group Executive Committee. The move replaces the current Co-Head structure with a co-chief executive model for the division.

The timing also leaves Barclays managing a leadership shift less than three years after the 2023 benchmark Venkatakrishnan used to describe the unit’s performance. That puts the new appointment on a long runway: the change is already set, but it still depends on regulatory approval before the February 2027 handover can take effect.

For readers tracking the division, the key next step is the approval process, not a fresh search. If that clears, Barclays will enter 2027 with Khan and Joo sharing control of the Investment Bank, one coming from inside the division and the other arriving from Bank of America.
