Plato Racing enters administration after Knockhill victory — Jason Plato's team is up for sale

Jason Plato’s Plato Racing Ltd has entered administration just one week after taking its first British Touring Car Championship victory, turning a breakthrough moment at Knockhill into a far more difficult financial story.

The team is now being advertised for sale after Cataclean applied to appoint an administrator on August 11th, with an administrator appointed on August 12th and the administration published on August 17th. The latest figures also show Plato Racing has lost £835,097 since inception, a stark reminder that success on track has not yet been matched by stability off it.

A breakthrough week on track

For a squad that had struggled for consistent top form in the rounds between its first appearance and Knockhill, the weekend at the start of August felt like a coming-of-age moment. Adam Morgan won Race 1, while the team also claimed pole on Donington Park’s Qualifying Race debut and added three additional podiums across the season.

Morgan said he was completely blown away by the result. He added that after years in the sport, getting pole was already amazing, but to top it off with a win and a second was mind-blowing, and he paid tribute to the team, the sponsors and everyone involved.

From celebration to administration

That contrast is what makes the news so striking. A team can look transformed by one strong weekend, but the business side of racing does not move to the same rhythm as the racetrack.

Plato Racing’s administration means the operation is now being marketed for sale, even though it is still scheduled to compete at Donington Park on August 22nd and 23rd. For now, the immediate question is whether the breakthrough at Knockhill can help secure a future, or whether it becomes a last high point before a change of ownership.

What comes next?

The short-term focus is simple: can Plato Racing keep racing at Donington Park while its future is decided? Beyond that, the sale process will determine whether Jason Plato’s team can turn a memorable first win into a more secure long-term project.
