Traffic in Scotland was affected after a 62-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash on the A9 at Dunkeld. Police Scotland said the driver of a white Toyota Hilux pick-up was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were alerted at about 10:25.
The road was closed in both directions for six hours while officers carried out a police investigation. For drivers using that stretch, the immediate issue was not just the fatal collision but the full shutdown of a major route through the area.
David Farr at Dunkeld
David Farr, a Police Scotland sergeant, said his inquiries were ongoing and asked anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the vehicle before it happened to contact officers. He also told drivers in the area at the time with dashcam footage to review it for anything that could assist with the investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this extremely difficult time.” Farr said.
Scottish Ambulance Service response
The Scottish Ambulance Service sent an ambulance, an air ambulance, a critical care team and a special operations response team to the crash. That response shows how quickly the scene was treated as a serious incident before the fatal outcome was recorded.
Police had not explained what caused the crash, even as they appealed for public help. Anyone with direct observations or usable dashcam footage is the clearest route into the investigation, and the road closure has already ended the immediate disruption for traffic through Dunkeld.
