Suffolk Police stopped eastbound and westbound traffic on the A14 by the Orwell Bridge after an incident on the day of the report. The bridge was closed in both directions while police stayed at the scene.
The closure left traffic halted on both sides of the bridge and heavy queues were building along the major road, according to the AA Traffic Map.
Suffolk Police at the scene
A spokeswoman for Suffolk Police said police were at the scene and traffic had been stopped. That was the only operational detail given, and it left drivers waiting without a stated time for a reopening.
The bridge closure covered both directions at the same time, which means traffic using the A14 by the bridge could not pass through in either direction while the incident continued.
AA Traffic Map queues
The AA Traffic Map showed the disruption spreading beyond the bridge itself, with heavy queues building along the major road. For drivers already on the route, the practical effect was immediate: they were facing stopped traffic rather than slow-moving congestion.
The reason for the closure was still unclear, so the incident was being treated as an active road block rather than a resolved disruption. Until the route is reopened, the only usable option for drivers is to avoid the closed stretch of the A14 by the Orwell Bridge and wait for further police updates.
