Twitch down detector searches pointed users to Proton’s global outage after a critical cooling failure hit a Frankfurt data center shortly after midnight CEST. Proton later restored service and said no user data was lost.
Proton in Frankfurt
At 00:09 CEST, Proton said it was investigating service availability problems.
By 00:38 CEST, engineers had identified the cooling failure in Frankfurt and began shifting traffic to backup sites.
Recovery started roughly an hour later, and some services became accessible again while the company kept monitoring the repair.
Proton Mail and notifications
At 01:57 CEST, Proton had implemented a fix.
By 02:27 CEST, the outage had been largely resolved, but some users could still see delays sending or receiving emails and notifications while remaining issues were cleared.
Proton later updated to say the minor problems were also resolved and that all systems were operational.
Stored data stayed intact
Proton said its no-data-loss assurance covered stored user content across Proton Mail, Proton Drive, and Proton Pass, including emails, files, and passwords.
The company also said mail sent to Proton Mail users during an outage is generally queued by sending servers and retried later, so delayed delivery does not automatically mean lost mail.
Proton said it will publish a post-mortem on after incident cleanup, and users who still run into problems should check the status page before retrying repeatedly.
