Gareth Pierce has said Todd Grimshaw will become Kit Green's first confidante after Kit's stage three breast cancer diagnosis was revealed on Monday's episode of Coronation Street.
Kit was diagnosed earlier this week, and on Monday, September 7, he reluctantly told Todd about it after the pair had been drinking in the Rovers. Pierce discussed the storyline at the National Television Awards, where he suggested Todd is starting to realise how isolated he could become if he keeps pushing people away.
That detail matters because Todd does not have many close friends on the street after the death of Celeste, Kit's great aunt. Before Celeste died from cancer, Todd had struck up a friendship with her while planning her funeral, and that history now feeds directly into his connection with Kit.

Pierce said Todd was the first person Kit opened up to, and described that as the start of what could be a really lovely friendship. He also noted that it is always enjoyable when characters who have not worked together much get the chance to share more scenes.
