Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands produced a strong opening statement for Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz, who beat Charley Hull and Lottie Woad 4 and 3 in Friday’s opening foursomes match at the 2026 Solheim Cup.
The result was bigger than one early point. Korda and Corpuz became the first partnership to win five straight matches in Solheim Cup history, a run that has now stretched across the last three Solheim Cups after the pair was also used in foursomes in 2023 and again in 2024.
United States opens with two points
The American side got off to the better start overall. The United States won the first two matches of the morning session, while Europe responded by taking the last two, leaving the teams tied 2-2 after the first session. That made for a rare opening-day split and only the third time the Solheim Cup has been level after the first session.
Angela Stanford said she was really happy with the start, pointing to the two points on the board away from home and the way her team battled through the final matches. “Fought to the end with the last two matches, so I like where we are,” she said.
Why Korda and Corpuz keep working
The partnership has clearly settled in. Korda said she enjoys playing with Corpuz and described her teammate as a solid player. Corpuz, meanwhile, joked that playing with Korda leaves her about 30 yards ahead of where she would normally be off the tee, making holes easier to manage.
That kind of comfort matters in foursomes, where rhythm and trust can be just as important as form. Korda and Corpuz did not just win again on Friday; they continued to show why the U.S. has leaned on them in this format over multiple Solheim Cups.
The opening session ended with the teams even, but the United States still took an early point away from home and got the kind of start that can set the tone for the rest of the week. Four four-ball matches were scheduled later on the opening day on Golf Channel.
