Apple said iOS 27 features will reach compatible iPhones on Monday, September 14, with a major revamp of Siri. The update should appear around 10 a.m. Pacific Time and 1 p.m. Eastern Time, which gives owners a narrow window to check Settings, General, and Software Update instead of waiting for a carrier notice.
iPhone 11 series and Siri AI
iOS 27 works on the iPhone 11 series and newer. Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence features are limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer, so two phones on the same update path will not get the same tools.
Siri AI can be started by pressing and holding the side button. Apple says it can use personal information stored on the iPhone, read what is on screen, and act in more apps that support it. Those gains are useful only if your device is new enough, because the newer assistant layer is not available across the full iOS 27 install base.
Liquid Glass and app speed
Apple also says Liquid Glass now has more uniform refraction and better contrast. A new slider lets users choose how clear or tinted it looks, and app icons are sharper and more detailed. That gives owners a direct control the old interface did not have, instead of forcing one visual style on everyone.
Apple says app launches are up to 30% faster in iOS 27. New photos in the Photos library load up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster. For people moving files or opening the same apps all day, those numbers matter more than the design tweaks because they shorten the delay between tapping and seeing something useful.
T-Mobile and iPhone Handoff
iOS 27 adds iPhone Handoff, which lets users switch between two iPhones while using the same phone number on each device. The feature requires carrier support, and T-Mobile in the U.S. and Deutsche Telekom in Germany will be first to offer it. T-Mobile is set to charge $5 per month for iPhone Handoff, while Verizon and the UK's EE plan to offer it by the end of the year.
The sharper divide is Siri AI itself. Apple says it starts in English only, carries daily usage limits, and will not be initially available in the EU on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and watchOS 27. Owners in the U.S. also get one extra piece of utility: a bill-splitting feature powered by Apple Cash and Apple Intelligence.
The open question is the full list of eight changes Apple is bundling into iOS 27 beyond the features already named, and that missing list is what buyers will want before deciding whether the upgrade is about polish, power, or both.
