Jesse Tyler Ferguson returns as Truman Capote in London on September 19. Charlotte D'Amboise is joining him in Tru at the Menier Chocolate Factory, turning the London transfer into more than a repeat booking: it is a cast expansion built around an already tested production model.
September 19 is the first performance date, September 27 is opening night, and the limited engagement runs through November 14. Ferguson is reprising the role after the New York production opened on March 19, following previews that began on March 6, and the run recouped its investment over 58 performances.

Charlotte D'Amboise returns to Tru after appearing in the March Off-Broadway production. That continuity matters because the London staging is not being rebuilt from scratch; it is being moved, with one cast member already inside the production's rhythm and one lead actor carrying the same title role across the Atlantic.

Rob Ashford will again direct the London production, with Paul Farnsworth as designer. Ashford has also said, “I had the great pleasure of directing Jesse in a staged reading of Tru as a one-night-only charity benefit in Tangier, Morocco, in the summer of 2024. He was mesmerizing! He captured the truth of the man, his humor and heartbreak. I’m thrilled that we get the opportunity to further explore this great pairing of actor and character in London.”
That combination points to a limited-run transfer that leans on familiarity rather than scale. Tru debuted on Broadway in December 1989 at the Booth Theatre, where Robert Morse played the title role and won the 1990 Tony for Best Actor in a Play; the London version keeps the focus on Truman Capote's own words while shifting the production into a new room with a new cast mix.
