National Cheeseburger Day 2026 brought a sharp push from McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s and Buffalo Wild Wings, with free and discounted burgers available for customers who used loyalty programs or digital ordering. The most direct deal came from McDonald’s: MyMcDonald’s Rewards members could get a free Double Cheeseburger with a minimum $1 purchase through the McDonald’s app.
McDonald’s paired the offer with a simple add-on pitch. A spokesperson said, “Since burgers are kind of our thing, we’d love for fans to come in and grab their favorite McDonald’s drink, snack or meal and add a Double Cheeseburger to celebrate the holiday with us.” The same spokesperson added, “And for fans who are looking for burger deals outside of the holiday, they can check out the McDonald’s App for deals every week.”
Burger King, Wendy’s and Buffalo Wild Wings
Burger King’s Royal Perks members could get a free Bacon Cheeseburger with a $3 minimum purchase through the Burger King app on National Cheeseburger Day. Wendy’s Rewards members could add a Dave’s Single Cheeseburger for $1.99 with any purchase through the chain’s app or website at participating U.S. locations. At participating locations, Buffalo Wild Wings offered a free cheeseburger with the purchase of another regularly priced cheeseburger.
That mix of rules is the real filter. The holiday deals were not open-ended price cuts; they were tied to digital accounts, app use or loyalty sign-ins, and several of them still required a minimum purchase before the free item appeared at checkout.
Burger King’s weeklong lineup
Burger King’s holiday push extended beyond Friday. Its weeklong lineup also included a free four-piece Chicken Nuggets with a $3 purchase on Sept. 19 and a free Original Chicken Sandwich with a $3 purchase on Sept. 20. For a customer, that means the burger deal was only one part of a short run of app-based offers, with the rest of the menu rotating over the following two days.
The Buffalo Wild Wings offer also came with limits: it could not be combined with other discounts and excluded lunch combos and kids’ menu burgers. The source does not say how many locations or customers actually redeemed the National Cheeseburger Day offers, but it does show how chains used the holiday to steer traffic into loyalty programs and mobile apps, not just to discount a sandwich.
