Dan Clancy Signals Gta 6 Online Multiplayer Will Launch Next Year

Dan Clancy says GTA 6 online multiplayer will launch next year, even as Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to arrive on 19th November with only the single-player campaign. That leaves Rockstar facing a familiar split release pattern, but without any public announcement for the online mode. For creators, the timing points to a second commercial wave after the base game lands.

Dan Clancy on Rockstar plans

“We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans,” Clancy said in a interview. “You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”

That is the clearest timing signal yet around GTA 6 online, and it comes from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy rather than Rockstar itself. He also said he helped Rockstar think about how they can engage creators, which frames multiplayer less as a side add-on and more as the part of the release that can keep attention moving after the launch window.

Rockstar’s split release history

Grand Theft Auto Online arrived two weeks after GTA 5 launched, while Red Dead Online went live seven months after Red Dead Redemption 2. Those gaps show Rockstar has already used staggered rollouts to separate the single-player debut from the online economy, and the new timing claim fits that pattern more than a same-day launch.

Strauss Zelnick has also said Take-Two supports its properties when consumers are involved with those titles, and that it did not sunset Online 1 after NBA 2K Online 2 launched in China in 2017. He added that both NBA 2K Online and NBA 2K Online 2 remain in the market, which points to a long-tail business view rather than a one-and-done release cycle.

November and the next test

Rockstar has not said anything about a GTA 6 Online multiplayer mode yet, so Clancy’s timeline is still the only public one on the table. The next hard date is 19th November, when Grand Theft Auto 6 arrives first as a single-player release; after that, the real question is whether multiplayer lands on a short delay like GTA 5 or a longer gap closer to Red Dead Redemption 2.

For players and creators, the practical takeaway is simple: plan for the base game first, then watch for the online layer to follow next year. If Rockstar keeps its usual rhythm, GTA 6 online should not be treated as a launch-day feature.
