Caltrans will close all northbound U.S. 101 lanes and one southbound lane at Hospital Curve in San Francisco from Friday night, September 18, through Monday morning, September 21. The work begins at Friday, September 18 at 11 p.m. and is scheduled to end at Monday, September 21 at 6 a.m.
Three southbound lanes will remain open during the weekend closure. The shutdown covers the Bayshore Freeway Hospital Curve between Cesar Chavez and 17th St. in the City of San Francisco, part of the Fab 4 Hospital Curve Rehabilitation Project.

Caltrans said the closure is the second of six weekend freeway closures required to complete major pavement repair work. The Fab 4 Hospital Curve Rehabilitation Project began in Fall 2025, and the current weekend is part of that longer schedule on U.S. 101.
For drivers, the practical change is simple: the entire northbound direction will be off limits through the weekend, while one southbound lane also closes. That leaves three southbound lanes open, but the traffic pattern through Hospital Curve will be tighter than usual.
Cesar Chavez Street and 10th Street
Caltrans has also laid out the next closure in the sequence. On Friday, October 2 at 11 p.m., all southbound lanes between Cesar Chavez Street and 10th Street are scheduled to close, with all lanes reopening by Monday, October 5 at 6 a.m.
Travelers leaving or heading to San Francisco International Airport and the SFO Rental Car Center have a dedicated detour map, and motorists coming from the peninsula and the South Bay toward the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge or San Francisco destinations also have one prepared. Caltrans asks drivers to use caution, and the work remains weather dependent. For anyone planning a weekend trip through Hospital Curve, the safest move is to check traffic before leaving and allow extra time on U.S. 101.
