Taigh Lannie said officers responded quickly after a bus driver was allegedly assaulted in Madeley, Telford, and the vehicle was stolen before being driven into several vehicles. Shropshire Star reported that a man in his 20s was later arrested and remains in police custody.

West Merica Police said they were called to Court Street in Madeley at about 18.35 BST on Friday. The driver was ejected from the bus during the assault, then the bus was driven along Park Way towards the High Street and travelled on the wrong side of the road.

The bus hit several vehicles before officers stopped it. A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving, while the bus driver was treated by paramedics for minor injuries.

“We understand this will have been an alarming incident for those in the area this evening,” Det Sgt Taigh Lannie said. “I’d like to reassure the community that officers responded quickly and a man has been arrested and remains in police custody.” No-one else was believed to have been hurt.
