Sara, a meteorology student and KRDO weather reporter, studied Journalism and Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is a graduate student in Meteorology at Mississippi State, and her report put the sharpest storm threat over Colorado Springs first, not later in the day.
Colorado Springs was expected to be mostly clear by 4 pm. That left a narrow window for the strongest weather, with the main thunderstorm threat arriving at 3 pm and then moving east across Colorado.
Eastern Colorado After 5 pm
Damaging winds and possibly large hail were expected in Eastern Colorado after the storms moved away from Colorado Springs. La Junta and Lamar were likely to get hit by thunderstorms after 5 pm, extending the weather risk into the evening for those communities.
Sunday was forecast to bring cooler highs in Colorado Springs, with temperatures in the low 70s. Small powerful thunderstorms were expected to continue over the eastern areas late Sunday night, so people in Colorado Springs and farther east had the clearest reason to finish outdoor plans early and watch the sky through the afternoon.
