Iwo Baraniewski will open the main card at UFC 331 against No. 14-ranked Alonzo Menifield, giving the unbeaten light heavyweight his biggest stage yet and a chance to move closer to the top 15.
Baraniewski said the matchup is exactly the kind of opportunity he wanted after his latest win. He described the main-card spot on a numbered event as a major motivation, especially with a full arena behind him and a chance to perform in front of thousands of fans.
That opportunity also comes with clear stakes. Baraniewski has won all three of his UFC fights in a combined three minutes and 22 seconds, a quick run that has turned him into one of the division’s more efficient finishers. He arrived in the UFC after beating Mahamed Aly in 20 seconds on Dana White's Contender Series, then debuted last December.
Fast rise through the division
Before reaching the UFC, Baraniewski built his record with Babilon MMA. He won his first two fights by armbar, then added three more knockout victories to improve to 5-0. Since joining the UFC, the finishes have continued to come quickly. He knocked out Ibo Aslan in 99 seconds in 2025, stopped Austen Lane in 28 seconds and beat Junior Tafa in 85 seconds.
That run is why the Menifield matchup matters so much. Menifield is an 18-fight veteran and ranked No. 14, which gives Baraniewski a direct path into the rankings if he can keep his momentum going. For a fighter who said he hoped his next bout would come against someone in the top 15, this is the kind of assignment he was looking for.
What Baraniewski expects
Baraniewski said he views Menifield as a dangerous striker and an experienced fighter, but he also believes the matchup can become a more technical contest. He said he hopes to do the hitting and avoid getting hit back, while still showing that he can go deeper if needed.
That last point may matter as much as anything. Baraniewski said he wants to prove he can fight into the third round, but he also made clear he will take an early finish if it comes. Either way, UFC 331 offers him a clear test: stay perfect, beat a ranked opponent, and turn a quick rise into a legitimate push toward the light heavyweight top 15.
