Boston-area diners get two kinds of news for National Taco Day 2026: new menu items arrived on Monday, Oct. 6, and free taco deals land on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Anna's Taqueria, Joe's on Newbury, Joe's Waterfront and Margaritas Mexican Restaurant are among the places rolling out limited-time promotions.
Anna's Taqueria kicked off its holiday push a day early with a chicken tinga taco made with slow-simmered shredded chicken in a smoky tomato-chipotle-adobo sauce, topped with red onion, queso fresco and cilantro on warm corn tortillas. The chain is also using the same filling in burritos and bowls, and it paired the launch with a Mango Passion Fruit Agua Fresca that replaces the Watermelon Agua Fresca.
Anna's Taqueria ideas and rewards
The menu change gives customers a concrete new option before the holiday itself, but Anna's Taqueria is also turning National Taco Day into a crowd-sourced promotion. Starting Tuesday, Oct. 7, customers can submit ideas for a future taco special, and the winning suggestion earns free tacos for a year.
That offer gives the holiday a longer tail than a one-day discount. For customers in Greater Boston, the immediate takeaway is simple: eat the new chicken tinga taco now, then use the holiday to enter the contest once the clock flips to Oct. 7.
Margaritas Mexican Restaurant TacOctoberfest
Margaritas Mexican Restaurant is keeping its free taco offer narrow. Rewards members get one taco between 3 and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, with a choice of ground beef, chicken or carnitas in hard or soft shells. Enrollment in the Circle of Friends rewards program is free through the restaurant's app and website.
That same promotion sits inside TacOctoberfest, which also includes $4 Taco Tuesday specials throughout the day, Taco Gigante challenges and seasonal food-and-drink pairings. The participating local locations named so far are Framingham, Revere and Waltham, so the giveaway is not a blanket offer across every area restaurant.
Joe's on Newbury and Joe's Waterfront
Joe's on Newbury and Joe's Waterfront are taking a more standard route: Baja fish tacos served with crispy cod, chipotle slaw, pico de gallo and sriracha aioli, alongside rice and beans. In a day built around freebies and one-time specials, those plates give diners another limited-time option without the same rewards-program hurdle.
For anyone planning around the holiday, the practical move is to separate the deals by clock and access. Anna's Taqueria's new items began on Oct. 6, Margaritas Mexican Restaurant's free taco window runs only from 3 to 5 p.m., and the rest of the National Taco Day offers are tied to Tuesday, Oct. 7.
