Greater Manchester Police said a 36-year-old man was arrested in Turkey and brought back to England on suspicion of murder over the Moss Side double murder. He remains in custody after being met at Stansted Airport on Saturday.
Junior Ajose and Cheriff Tall were shot dead at a lockdown party in Moss Side, Manchester, in the early hours of 21 June 2020. Ajose was 36 and Tall was 21; both were shot in the head in a car park off Caythorne Street and died in hospital.
Neil Higginson on the arrest
Det Ch Insp Neil Higginson said the arrest shows the force's commitment to securing justice for Junior and Cheriff and their loved ones. He said officers had spent six years carrying out multiple warrants, analysing evidence, examining devices seized during the investigation and pursuing every opportunity to identify those responsible.
Police said an estimated 300 to 400 people were in the car park that night. Over the last six years, the case has remained active, with officers continuing to seek information to establish the full circumstances of what happened and to identify any outstanding suspects.
Reward in the Moss Side case
Greater Manchester Police issued a further appeal for information on the fifth anniversary of the deaths last year, and a £50,000 reward remains available for key information that leads to a conviction. The arrest gives the investigation its clearest new step in years, but police are still asking for help from anyone who can add to the record of that night.
Who the arrested man is and what led police to detain him in Turkey have not been set out in the available details.
