Shirley N. Weber sets Monday deadline to Register To Vote In California

California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber said voters have until Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, to register to vote in California online for the Nov. 3, 2026, General Election. Eligible Californians can also use the same online system to update their registration through midnight.

Weber pointed voters to registertovote.ca.gov, where she said online voter registration is quick and convenient. “Online voter registration is quick and convenient through registertovote.ca.gov,” she said. “The website is mobile-friendly and allows people to register or update their voter registration on a laptop, tablet, or smartphone.”

The deadline applies to eligible Californians who still need to register or make changes before the Nov. 3, 2026, General Election. The online option closes first, so anyone waiting past Monday loses that digital path and must use another registration method.

Weber’s reminder also gives voters a practical next step: check registration status online before the deadline, then use the website if information needs to be added or corrected. That matters for people who have moved, changed names or need to verify their record before election day.

Same Day and Conditional registration

Missing the online deadline does not end registration. Eligible voters can still complete Same Day or Conditional voter registration in person at a county elections office or at any in-person voting location through election day.

Those voters must fill out a voter registration form at the site, then receive a ballot that will be counted only after the county elections office completes the voter registration verification process. The online cutoff, then, is not the end of the line; it is the point where the process shifts from online filing to in-person paperwork.

For voters who are already eligible but have not yet acted, the immediate choice is simple: use registertovote.ca.gov before midnight on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, or be ready to register in person later. The deadline is the last statewide online window before the Nov. 3 election, and the in-person option is the fallback if that window closes.
