Zelensky says Ukraine faces real limits on Starlink, intelligence

Volodymyr Zelensky said in Kiev that Ukraine now faces real limits on intelligence sharing and a reduction in Starlink speed, not just threats. He said those restrictions are already in place while Russia keeps striking, and he tied the issue to the defense of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

"Le limitazioni alla condivisione di informazioni di intelligence e la riduzione della velocità di Starlink non sono più semplici minacce ma una realtà," Zelensky said in the interview with Corriere della Sera. He added: "È ingiusto nei nostri confronti," and said Ukraine had been told simply to stop.

Kiev and the Trump call

Zelensky said he had already spoken to Donald Trump about interceptors if allies could not stop Vladimir Putin. He said Ukraine needed those interceptors to protect energy infrastructure, even though he also said Ukraine would still suffer losses with them. Zelensky said: "se per voi alleati è necessario e non riuscite a fermare Putin, dateci almeno gli intercettori."

He said the missiles were not given to Ukraine. That leaves the immediate operational problem in place: Ukraine is being asked to hold infrastructure under fire while the tools that help track attacks, communicate in real time, and intercept incoming missiles are being narrowed at the same time.

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin

Zelensky also said he remains grateful to the American people and to the Trump team. At the same time, he said Trump’s choices push Ukraine toward capitulation, even as he still considers Donald Trump an ally. That split view is the sharp edge of the interview: gratitude on one side, alarm on the other.

The interview was Zelensky’s first with an Italian media outlet after the patto del diesel between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, which Zelensky said had already begun Putin’s progressive exit from isolation. He also said the proposed summit would involve the United States, Russia, and China, a sign that the diplomatic track around the war is widening even as the restrictions Zelensky described are already affecting Ukraine.

Papa Leone XIV call

Zelensky spoke after a phone call with Papa Leone XIV about evacuating civilians trapped in Russian-occupied territories, including residents of Oleshky who were left without food. That detail places the interview in the same immediate wartime frame as the technology and interceptor issue: civilians, communications, and air defense are all being pressed at once.

For Ukraine, the practical question now is not whether pressure exists but how far it will go across intelligence, Starlink, and air defense support. Zelensky’s account leaves the next move with Donald Trump and other allies, who have not given the interceptors he requested.
