The iPhone duo review puts Apple’s first foldable phone at the top of the category after a week of testing. The result matters because the iPhone Duo is already backed up by months, with some preorder customers waiting until the end of January 2027.
iPhone Duo Review and the backlog
After a week with the device, the reviewer said the hype was justified and called the iPhone Duo the best foldable phone tested to date.
That judgment lands in a 2026 smartphone market that the writer described as relatively iterative. The phone arrived late in that conversation, which makes the praise more pointed than routine launch coverage.
Apple and the matte inner screen
The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first phone with a foldable display. When closed, it measures 3.3 by 6.4 by 0.4 inches, and its 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR cover display runs at 2034 by 1398 pixels.
Opened, it becomes a 7.6-inch handset with a 2670 by 1878 pixel inner screen. The matte nano-texture panel on that screen cuts glare and smudges better than any other smartphone touchscreen the reviewer used, and it hides the crease in the middle of the display more effectively when the phone is folded.
FaceTime inside Duo
The interior FaceTime camera sits inside the display, and a small circle on the side of the screen marks where to look for it. That choice keeps the front of the phone visually cleaner, but it also asks users to learn a new aiming point when they want to make a call.
The external display is 5.4 inches diagonally, which makes it the smallest cover screen on a current foldable phone and gives the Duo a feel closer to the old-school mini iPhones than to Apple’s current lineup.
The unanswered issue is how many iPhone Duo units Apple can ship before the backlog clears. Customers who order now are still looking at the end of January 2027.
