Yemen's Houthi movement says it hit King Fahd International Airport — Saudi Arabia Airport Attack

Yemen's Houthi movement said it carried out a Saudi Arabia airport attack on Wednesday evening at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. Saudi authorities said two people were killed and eight others were injured at the airport, turning the strike into the deadliest single episode in this latest round of airport attacks.

Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation identified the dead as a Saudi citizen and an Indian resident. The airport was one of the sites Yahya Sarea said the Houthis had targeted with drones and missiles over the previous 48 hours, alongside Riyadh, Yanbu and Abha International Airport.

The airport strike landed in Eastern Province, where Saudi authorities said the reported toll since the start of October in Houthi attacks on Saudi airports has reached at least 21 people. That figure already includes a missile strike on Riyadh's international airport on 10 October, which killed 13 people and injured 308 others.

Saudi Arabia's state oil company Aramco and the Saudi energy ministry were dealing with a separate incident on Wednesday morning, when two more people were killed by debris from a drone intercepted elsewhere in Eastern Province. The ministry said the drone had been intercepted as it tried to target a processing facility owned by Aramco in the Shaybah oil field, and said a contractor's vehicle was set ablaze there.

Yahya Sarea said the Houthis also targeted the Saudi defence ministry's headquarters building in Riyadh, an Aramco facility in Yanbu and Abha International Airport. The Saudi-led coalition said four drones were intercepted over Eastern Province on Wednesday night, then said another four drones were intercepted over the provinces of Riyadh and Medina on Thursday.

The Houthis claimed the airport strike and named multiple targets, but Saudi authorities did not say what type of attack occurred at King Fahd International Airport. That leaves the weapon used at Dammam and whether the airport strike was part of a coordinated multi-target operation unresolved in the public account.

Saudi response in Eastern Province

What matters for travelers and airport workers is the narrow fact pattern now on record: one airport in Dammam, two people killed, eight others injured, and a claim from Yemen's Houthi movement that the airport was among several Saudi sites hit over 48 hours. Saudi authorities have put the human toll on the record and named the dead, while the Saudi-led coalition has described a separate wave of drone interceptions across Eastern Province, Riyadh and Medina.

The next publicly named development is the continuing accounting of those drone interceptions and any further response Saudi Arabia chooses to describe after the Dammam strike and the earlier deaths in Eastern Province.
