Peter Berg Attached to Direct Call of Duty Movie

Peter Berg is attached to direct Taylor Sheridan’s Call of Duty adaptation. That pairing puts a major game property in the hands of a filmmaker already talking about action, heart, and the cost of being a warrior.

At the Newport Beach Film Festival, Ray Nicholson said he would be honored to work with Berg again and laid out the odd practical hurdle in front of him: he thinks they want all Brits, and he has the worst British accent of all time. So he said he was working with a dialect coach secretly, 24/7.

Taylor Sheridan Writes the Script

Taylor Sheridan is writing the screenplay, which gives the adaptation a clear division of labor: Sheridan on the script, Berg on the direction. For a franchise built on military precision and recognizable tone, that matters because the movie now has both a writer and a director attached before casting settles into place.

Ray Nicholson recently worked with Berg on Mosquito Day, and he spoke about the director in unusually direct terms. “He’s the most authentic human being I’ve ever met in my life.” He added, “You are going to meet Peter Berg where he is at. He is not going to capitulate to you.”

Ray Nicholson’s Accent Problem

“I mean, that would be amazing. I’m pretty sure that they want all Brits, and I have the worst British accent of all time. So I’m working with a dialect coach secretly, 24/7. But it would be an honor to work with Peter again. Obviously, Call of Duty is really cool IP, and I think the fact that the film industry is getting into the video game space is really cool. And I hope that opens a lot of things up.”

That quote does two jobs at once. It shows Nicholson wants into the project, and it makes the casting question concrete: he is already preparing for a role that may require him to sound British, even though he says that is the weakest part of his toolkit.

Inde Navarrette Wants In

Inde Navarrette also spoke about wanting to join the upcoming Call of Duty adaptation at the Newport Beach Film Festival. Put alongside Nicholson’s comments, the picture is of a project that has already started drawing interest before a cast list has been set in public.

“he does this amazing action stuff, but he has so much heart.” Nicholson said that about Berg, and it is the most useful shorthand for why the attachment matters. The director is being sold not just as someone who can stage action, but as someone who can keep the movie from feeling mechanical.

The immediate open question is whether Ray Nicholson or Inde Navarrette ends up in the Call of Duty adaptation. Until those casting calls land, the film has a writer, a director, and public interest — enough to show momentum, not enough to show a finished lineup.
