Pat McAfee said Monday that he did not enjoy the University of Utah after Saturday's College GameDay visit, describing the trip as an uncomfortable experience after the school hosted the show for the seventh time overall and for the third time over the last four seasons.
Speaking on his self-titled daily show, McAfee said his reaction was tied in part to how he was treated during the weekend appearance. He said, "I did not enjoy the University of Utah," and added that hearing students call him "corny" and "creepy" made it an uncomfortable feeling.
The personality also pointed to an official University of Utah Instagram post that asked students to do an impression of him before Saturday College GameDay. McAfee said that post helped create the atmosphere that made the visit so uneasy from his perspective.
Why McAfee's comments stand out
McAfee has previously said he enjoyed his time in Utah and has made several new friends in the state, which made his Monday remarks more notable. Even so, he made clear that this particular visit did not land well for him.
He said, "I was just very, very uncomfortable," and joked that he may think he has COVID or something whenever GameDay returns to Utah if he is still part of the show. He also said, "I'll hopefully never go to that place."
McAfee's comments came with a dose of football analysis as well. He said, "It's hard to pick against this mighty Utah student section, but I'm gonna do it 10 times out of 10," before backing Houston and saying, "Give me Houston coming out of here with a big-time dub and proving that Utah hasn't had to play anybody yet."
The broader context is that Utah has become a regular stop for College GameDay, but McAfee's reaction added an unusual layer to the weekend. He also said his mind went to the Charlie Kirk shooting more than a year ago while thinking about safety at a college gathering in Utah, underscoring why the setting felt especially uncomfortable to him.
For Utah, the show brought another nationally watched College GameDay appearance. For McAfee, it ended with a blunt assessment that the experience was not a positive one.
