Apple Says Small Number of iPhone Duo Units Have Inner Display Issue — Apple Iphone Duo Broken Screen

Apple iPhone duo broken screen reports surfaced after the handset went on general sale globally on Friday. Apple says a small number of iPhone Duo units are affected by an inner display issue, and owners who run into display trouble are being told to contact AppleCare for a replacement.

The device retails from $1,999, or £1,499, so the first wave of cracks is landing at a sensitive moment for buyers who expected a brand-new foldable to arrive without immediate display trouble.

One user in Australia said their Duo cracked within six hours of taking ownership of it. That account matters because it ties the fault to the earliest hours of use, not to long-term wear.

Australia, US and India

Another user in Australia said they heard an audible crack and the screen broke right along the hinge. A second Australian user described almost a cracking noise and a similar screen malfunction, while a report also pointed to similar issues among users in the US and India.

Those reports make the problem look messier than the phrase “small number” suggests. Apple says the affected set is limited, but the online complaints point to a common failure pattern in the inner display, not scattered cosmetic damage.

AppleCare for replacement

Apple said the response from early users had been “incredibly positive” and that demand had been “nothing short of extraordinary.” The company also says users with display issues should contact AppleCare for a replacement, which gives affected owners a clear next step while the screen problem is still being sorted out.

Francisco Jeronimo said, “This is quite common when a new product comes to market.” He added, “What matters now is how the company responds … Samsung experienced problems with the original Galaxy Fold in 2019, but it also showed that a fast and transparent response can contain the damage to a category.”

Ben Wood said he was taking a very cautious view of the Duo screen problem and that there was as yet no evidence of a more widespread issue with the device. The unanswered question is what is causing the inner display issue on the iPhone Duo, and whether the first cracked units stay isolated or keep appearing as shipments continue toward January.
