Carlos Zorita says Bernabeu station is 70% complete

Metro de Madrid says the Bernabeu station renovation is more than 70% complete, with the rebuilt stop scheduled to finish in the first quarter of 2027. The station has been closed since March 28, and Line 10 service between Nuevos Ministerios and Cuzco is due to resume at the end of December without stopping there.

Carlos Zorita, responsible for the Service of Infrastructure and Stations of Metro, said the intermediate level has already been built and the final connections to the platforms are now being completed through galleries. He also said: "Ya hemos ejecutado el nivel intermedio de la estación y en estos momentos nos encontramos finalizando las conexiones de este nivel con los andenes a través de galerías".

The project carries a budget of 66 million euros and will triple the station’s surface area to more than 12,000 square meters. The redesign replaces traditional corridors with a large vestibule, a layout built to move passengers through a wider space rather than through narrow passageways.

Zorita said the finishing phase has started, including electromechanical installations, lighting, communications, and coatings. He added: "Dentro del avance de la obra ya hemos llevado a cabo la instalación de cuatro de los ascensores que van a permitir la conexión de calle-vestíbulo, dado que la estación va a ser accesible a personas con movilidad reducida".

Línea 10 and Bernabeu access

The station will have 12 panoramic elevators and 24 escalators, and Metro de Madrid says it will be 100% accessible. Four of the elevators for the street-to-vestibule connection have already been installed, a step that points to how the new access system is being built before the station reopens.

When service on Línea 10 returns at the end of December, trains will pass between Nuevos Ministerios and Cuzco without stopping at Santiago Bernabeu. The station itself stays closed until the renovation is finished, so the line will reopen before the station does.

Bernabeu reopening in 2027

The station will be officially renamed Bernabeu and will have two access points linked to the Santiago Bernabéu stadium plus one new access in the Azca financial area. For passengers, that means the near-term change is the return of line service between the adjacent stations, while the rebuilt stop remains out of use until the first quarter of 2027.
