The shooting happened outside the Chesnee Food Lion in a commercial block that was partly taped off after the incident. Crime scene tape surrounded the Chesnee Washerette, Serenity Massage Therapy, Designers Unlimited and the Chesnee Car Wash, while one side of Hardee’s was also blocked.

People could still come and go through the other side of Hardee’s, showing that the response reached beyond the store parking lot and into the surrounding businesses. The Food Lion will remain closed for the day.

The sheriff’s office has not identified the person who died. It also has not given the extent of the injured person’s injuries, leaving the immediate condition of the second victim unresolved while investigators work the scene.

Spartanburg District 2 officials said nearby schools are operating on a normal schedule, and SROs will be on campus as usual. For families and employees in the area, that means the school day is continuing while deputies keep the shooting investigation active in the same part of Chesnee.

The next practical question is what investigators learn about what led to the shooting outside the Food Lion. The sheriff’s office has a suspect in custody, but the identities and injuries tied to the case still leave the full picture unfinished.
