Jet de Ranitz Pulls The Netherlands From Eurovision 2027 — Netherlands Eurovision Boycott 2027

Netherlands Eurovision boycott 2027 is back on the table. The Netherlands will not take part in Eurovision 2027 after NPO reversed its earlier decision to return, and the move lands after weeks of pressure inside the broadcaster system.

Jet de Ranitz said NPO could not secure a broadcaster willing to facilitate the participation of a Dutch artist. She also said the organisation had first believed there was enough support to return, which makes the reversal more than a simple change of mind.

Jet de Ranitz and NPO

“In our coordinating role, we held discussions with the broadcasters to investigate whether there are any broadcasters willing to facilitate the participation of a Dutch artist. In those discussions, we initially felt there was sufficient support to return,” de Ranitz said. “As a result, we must conclude that it is currently too early to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027.”

Her wording matters because NPO was not describing a symbolic pullback. It was describing a practical failure to line up a broadcaster for the Dutch entry, which leaves the country without a route back into Eurovision 2027 under the current plan.

AVROTROS in August

In August, AVROTROS announced that it would not take part because of Israel's presence in the line-up. That earlier decision set off widespread criticism, and around 400 NPO employees later signed a letter urging the organisation to reconsider its participation.

NPO then held talks with broadcasters to test whether any of them would facilitate the participation of a Dutch artist. The public pushback, combined with the inability to secure that broadcaster, pushed the process back to where it started: no Dutch participation.

Martin Green response

Martin Green said he was “deeply sorry” that the Netherlands would not take part. He added that the Eurovision organisation understands the decision and “we respect the strength of feeling behind it.”

That leaves the Netherlands outside Eurovision 2027 and closes the return path for now. For anyone looking at the Dutch side of the contest, the operative fact is simple: NPO has stepped back, and the broadcaster network it needed never lined up in time.
