Irene Miller arrested at Orlando International Airport after 4 children left alone

Irene Miller was arrested Friday at Orlando International Airport after investigators said she left her four children home alone in Kissimmee for days while she traveled to Las Vegas. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office said the case began when a juvenile called 911 on Wednesday after a 9-year-old boy was struck in the head by a falling dumbbell.

Deputies found four children ages 9, 11, 12 and 14 without adult supervision at the home on Parkway Boulevard. Fire rescue took the 9-year-old to a hospital, where he was treated and discharged, while the others remained under the sheriff’s attention as the neglect investigation continued.

The sheriff’s office said Miller, 50, was taken into custody after deboarding the plane. Body camera video released by the office showed the arrest as she returned to Florida, ending the gap between the children being left alone and the moment deputies detained her.

That sequence matters in practical terms: the alleged neglect was not a long-past complaint, but a case tied to the return trip itself. The children were already out of immediate danger by the time Miller landed, yet the investigation had enough to move from a welfare check to an arrest at the airport.

Las Vegas trip details

Miller told deputies by phone that she was working in Las Vegas and planned to return Friday. Investigators determined she left on Oct. 18, five days before that scheduled return. She also said a babysitter traveled from Tampa each morning to help get the children ready for school and check on them in the afternoon, but that person did not stay overnight.

That detail leaves the overnight period at the center of the case. By Miller’s own account, the children had daytime help, but the sheriff’s office said they still lacked adult supervision at night, which is the period investigators used to support the child-neglect charge.

Chris Blackmon statement

Miller was booked into Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. Chris Blackmon said, “The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate child neglect. These cases will be investigated, and charges will be brought against the parents who are not properly supervising or caring for their children,” The children’s father later took all four children to his residence.

The case now moves through the legal process on those four counts, with the main unresolved point being how the travel and childcare arrangement broke down before Miller’s return to Florida.
