Joanne Young Describes Stranger in Bedroom After Husband Plan

Joanne Young told Winchester crown court that she woke in February 2023 to find a stranger in her bedroom after her husband had allegedly arranged for someone to have sex with her. The jury heard recorded video evidence from Young, 49, on Wednesday in the trial of four men accused of sexual assault.

Young said she woke in the middle of the night restrained and blindfolded and feeling hazy. She said she removed her blindfold on one occasion and saw a stranger in her bedroom, then hid in a bathroom after seeing the man in her room.

She told the court that the next day she asked Philip Young, “What was that?” She said he replied that he had invited someone to watch them have sex.

Philip Young account

Young said Philip Young had liked to restrain and blindfold her during sex, and that she would wake up not knowing how she had come to be restrained. She also said he had joked early in their marriage about watching her have sex with someone else, and she told the court: “That was never part of our relationship and was never going to be.”

She said the couple had been married for 20 years and had three children, and described them as a straight, monogamous couple. She also said Philip Young had advertised her on dating and swinging websites as a kink for both of them. On the day of his arrest, she said he admitted sharing explicit images of her.

Four men on trial

The case is being heard as four men face trial over accusations that they sexually assaulted Young. The court heard her recorded account of the February 2023 incident, but the source does not set out in this evidence how each of the four men is said to have been involved.

Young also said Philip Young told her the February incident was not the only time such a thing had happened. That leaves the jury with her account of the bedroom encounter and the question of how the prosecution links the four defendants to the alleged assaults that followed.
