Haliburton Injury Expected to Cost Pacers Time as Indiana Waits on Next Update

The Pacers are suddenly dealing with the kind of uncertainty that can change the feel of an early season in a hurry. Tyrese Haliburton is expected to miss time after suffering a left hamstring strain, a troubling development for a team that had started 2-2 with him in the lineup and now has to figure out what comes next.

Haliburton was already listed as questionable on Tuesday, and by Wednesday morning Rick Carlisle said he would meet later in the day with a hamstring specialist, trainers and members of the Indiana front office. Hours later, 's Shams Charania reported that Haliburton is expected to miss time. He is not expected to play Wednesday night against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Why this matters for Indiana

This is not just about losing a productive guard for one game. Haliburton has been central to Indiana's early rhythm, averaging 33 minutes, 21.8 points, 9.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals while shooting 51.6 percent overall and 37 percent from deep through four games. When a player is producing at that level, the impact goes beyond the box score. He shapes tempo, organizes the offense and makes the Pacers harder to defend because so much of what they do is built around his decision-making.

The timing also matters. Haliburton missed the entirety of last season after a torn Achilles in June 2025, and Indiana won only 19 games without him. That does not mean the Pacers are doomed now, but it does underline how much their margin for error changes when he is unavailable. Even early in the season, the team is already dealing with hamstring issues elsewhere, with T.J. McConnell and Aaron Nesmith among the other Pacers players who have also dealt with similar problems.

What Carlisle said

Carlisle did not sound ready to offer a firm timeline on Wednesday morning. “We’ll have more information, but right now, it’s uncertain,” he said, adding that the team hoped the hamstring issue would not turn into anything long-term. That is the kind of answer that buys time, but not much comfort. Until the Pacers know more, the bigger question is not whether Haliburton missed one game. It is how long Indiana might have to manage without the player who has been driving its start.

For now, the story is simple: Haliburton is dealing with a left hamstring strain, he is expected to miss time, and the Pacers are left to absorb the possibility that their best offensive engine could be out of the rotation for longer than they would like.
