Bonfire Night starts early across the North West, with free events running from 31 October to 7 November and Katie Thistleton part of the digital display at The Printworks. The schedule gives Manchester and Rochdale readers several no-cost options, but the set-up is not uniform: some sites are traditional fireworks nights, while The Printworks is using a digital display instead.

At The Irish World Heritage Centre in Cheetham Hill, there are two free firework events. The first runs on Saturday 31 October from 13:00 GMT to 21:00, with fireworks at 19:30, and the second follows on Thursday 5 November from 17:00 to 21:00, again with fireworks at 19:30. A fire show and live music begin at 17:00 on both nights, which makes those two dates the earliest and most time-flexible options on the list.

The Printworks in Manchester city centre

The Printworks in Manchester city centre hosts its free digital firework display on Thursday 5 November from 16:30 until 19:00, with the main fireworks and music from 18:15. Katie Thistleton and Hacker T Dog provide the storytelling, turning the event into something closer to a staged family show than a standard fireworks night. That is the practical difference here: the venue is selling the atmosphere without the usual pyrotechnic format.

Manchester City Council then concentrates its free firework night celebrations into one evening on Saturday 7 November, with events at Heaton Park, Wythenshawe Park and Platt Fields Park. Each site opens at 15:00 and finishes at 21:00, with fireworks set off at 17:00 and 20:00, so the city is effectively giving residents a choice between an early burst and a later one.

Rochdale Borough Council dates

Rochdale Borough Council spreads its free programme across three consecutive nights: the Middleton Bonfire and Fireworks Display at Bowlee Community Park on Monday 2 November, the Heywood Bonfire and Fireworks Display at Queen's Park Road, Heywood, opposite Queen's Park, on Tuesday 3 November, and the Rochdale Bonfire and Fireworks Display at Cronkeyshaw Common, Rochdale, on Wednesday 4 November. The Middleton and Heywood events include funfairs from 18:00, giving those two nights a broader draw than a simple fireworks timetable.

The clearest read for anyone choosing between the free events is timing, not price. The earliest start is the 13:00 GMT opening at The Irish World Heritage Centre on 31 October, while the most compressed option is the 5 November run at The Printworks, which fits the display, the storytelling and the main fireworks into a 2 hour 30 minute window. How many people are expected to attend each of the free events is not stated, so the smart move is to pick by location and start time rather than assume the biggest crowd will be the closest one.
