Daisy May Cooper says she has shed 10st and gone from a size 24 to a size 10 after starting to lose weight in 2021. The scale of the change is only half the story: she says the reaction to it pushed her to hand over social media management to a personal assistant.
“People are so f***ing horrible and mean and say such horrible things, I just can’t even go near her phone.” She said the abuse online made it hard to deal with messages directly, even as her body changed.
quetiapine and keto
Cooper said she had been prescribed quetiapine for anxiety and depression, and that it made her constantly hungry. “I piled on all this weight. I couldn’t go upstairs without getting into a sweat and, when it was hot, my thighs would rub. I was on quetiapine tablets for anxiety and depression and they made me hungry all the time. After deciding I wasn’t going to take them any more, the weight fell off.”
She also said she later followed keto, eating mostly meat and cheese. “Because all I was eating was meat and cheese, like Henry VIII.” She said that approach left her with kidney stones, which turns her weight loss into a cautionary tale rather than a clean before-and-after story.
Industry fears after 10st
Cooper said the backlash did not stop at abuse. “I’ve had some messages like, ‘Well, now you’ve lost the weight you’re not funny any more.’ ‘What the f**k? Why do women have to be f***ing fat to be funny? That makes me so angry. I champion anybody. I think everybody should be happy with their body. But I wasn’t.’”
That worry fed straight into her career anxiety. “That made me really panic actually. I thought, “F***. Is that going to affect me casting-wise?”” She also asked, “Will I be scratched off people’s lists when they go, “She can’t be the funny big one?”” For an actor whose public identity has been tied to comedy, the question is not vanity; it is whether a physical transformation changes how the industry reads her.
2021 to June 2024
Cooper said the weight loss began in 2021, the same year she and Will Weston split. Since then, her personal life has kept moving: she and Anthony Huggins became engaged and welcomed a son, Benji, in June 2024.
Her own account leaves one point hanging, and it is the one that matters most to readers tracking the story beyond gossip: how much of the reported change was driven by stopping quetiapine, how much came from keto, and how much it altered her health and career path are not separated in the comments she has given. What is clear is that 10st down and a size 10 later, Cooper is still weighing the cost of being seen differently.
