Górnik Zabrze missed a chance to go top of the table after drawing 0:0 with Legia Warszawa in the 13th round of Ekstraklasa on Friday evening. The result left Lech Poznań in first place and kept the rankings unchanged at the top.
It was the sort of title-race game that can reshape a season, but this one ended without a breakthrough. Górnik were hoping to extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches, while Legia arrived in Zabrze having not lost away in the current league season.
Górnik could not find the decisive moment
The home side had their best chance before the break when Jarosław Kubicki headed wide from six metres. It was the clearest opening of the first half, and it summed up how fine the margins were across more than one and a half hours of football.
Legia also had chances, finishing with 22 attempts, but neither side could turn pressure into the goal that would have changed the picture at the top of the table. For Górnik, that meant a missed opportunity to move into first place. For Legia, it was a point that preserved their unbeaten away run.
What the result means for the rankings
The draw does not alter the identity of the leader. After the match, Lech Poznań remained first in the table, with Górnik Zabrze still forced to wait for another chance to strike in the title race.
There was no shortage of tension in Zabrze, but in the end the 0:0 scoreline felt like a result that suited the table more than either side. Górnik remain very much in the conversation, but they were denied the chance to finish the night on top.
